Natural foundation.. Fond de teint naturals..

8 Feb 2015

English translation
When I made the big switch from conventional to natural cosmetics, I found it very hard to find a good foundation that was adapted to my skin...well actually a good foundation period :)

I still find it difficult and I am always looking for new foundations...In case I could find something even better. I can't hide however that I miss a lot my Dior Nude, because it was perfect in every way (application, colour, mat tone-but not too much, holding fabulously all day long). Unfortunately, it is filled with horrible chemical products that are really not healthy. I am not capable of throwing it away, and it happens sometimes that I use it, not without a guilty feeling, because wearing means buying and buying means voting.

Going back to the initial story...natural foundations.

Sante Naturkosmetik - Soft Foundation #2 *(1)

English translation
This foundation is superb: tone, hold, semi-mat finish, average covering. It corresponds, in my opinion, to an excellent foundation. One slight note: it contains talc and my skin doesn't like talc. If i use it daily, this foundation blocks my skin pores. If you do not have any problem with talc, I recommend it.

AQUA (WATER), HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL, GLYCINE SOJA (SOYBEAN) OIL*, GLYCERIN, SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL*, SQUALANE, TALC, POTASSIUM CETYL PHOSPHATE, PALMITIC ACID, STEARIC ACID, PARFUM (ESSENTIAL OILS), HYDROGENATED PALM GLYCERIDES, THEOBROMA GRANDIFLORUM SEED BUTTER*, PUNICA GRANATUM SEED EXTRACT*, SORBITOL, GALACTOARABINAN, XANTHAN DUM, HYDROGENATED LECITHIN, SODIUM CITRATE, ASCORBYL PALMITATE, LECITHIN, CITRIC ACID, TOCOPHEROL, HYDROGENATED PALM GLYCERIDES CITRATE, FARNESOL, [+/- CI 77891 (TITANIUM DIOXIDE), CI 77492 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77491 (IRON OXIDES)]  * organically grown

Inika - Liquid Foundation (cream) (2)

English translation
I used it a few times only. It is too drying and contains coconut oil, an ingredient that I try to avoid for my face. Coconut oil tends to block my skin pores. It is not a bad foundation, but I can't find a characteristic that's impressed me.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil*, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Lecithin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Aqua ( Water), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed butter*, Oleyl Oleate, Rosa Eglentaria Seed ( Rosehip) Oil*, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil*, Camellia Oleifera Seed Oil*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil*, Cananga Odorata Flower ( Ylang Ylang) Oil*, Pelargonium Roseum Leaf Oil*,, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil*, Cymbopogon Martini Oil*, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil*,, Calophyllum Inophyllum Seed ( Tamanu )Oil *, Calendula Officinalis Flower*, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Terminalia Ferdinandiana Fruit ( Kakadu Plum) Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E), Glyceryl Caprylate, Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Hydroxyethylcellulose, Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Alcohol, p-Anisic Acid, Glycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate. * Certified Organic

Dr. Hauschka - Translucent Makeup (00) (3)

English translation
I like this one, but it is a very light foundation for which you need to have not many imperfections. On the other side, it equalizes the tone and gives a perfectly glowing skin. This is my second tube. It is the only natural foundation that I bought again, so that's a sign. It ratifies my oily areas and hydrates the dried ones. The tone colour is good for the winter, because I am very pale, but during the summer I mix it with bronzeur liquide de Dr. Hauschka.

Water/Aqua, Alcohol, Anthyllis Vulneraria Extract, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Root Extract, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Glycerin, Althaea Officinalis Leaf Extract, Cetearyl Alcohol, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract, Prunus Armeniaca

Andalou Naturals - CC 1000 roses Color Correct (Sheer Nude) (4)

Think dirty 3

English translation
This skin tone corrector is a tone corrector : very light covering. It does not matify the tone, and actually does the opposite. It contains natural zinc FPS 30. I can't wait to use it during the summer. The color is perfect and mixes up perfectly with your tone. Think dirty 3

Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis Juice*, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) and Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Oils*, Sorbitan Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate, PhytoCellTec (Alpine Rose, Malus Domestsica, Solar Vitis) and BioActive 8 Berry Complex*, Soothing Complex: [Hyaluronic Acid, Magnolia Officinalis Bark, Phoenix Dactylifera (Date) Leaf Cell and Boswellia Serrata (Boswellin) Extracts], Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides, Rosa Damascena (Rose) Distillate*, Rosa Canina (Rosehip) and Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Oils*, Algae and Cucumis Melo (Melon) Extracts, Iron Oxide, Magnesium Sulfate, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch*, Camellia Sinensis (White Tea), Aspalathus Linearis (Rooibos) and Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis Extracts*†, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Phenethyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Pelargonium Graveolens (Rose Geranium) Oil*, Rosa Centifolia (Rose) Oil

Sappho Organics - Liquid Foundation (Mia) (5)

English translation
This one is my favourite, but I have chosen the color that was slightly too pale. The covering is average, the effect is bright, but not oily: a nice healthy tone. I didn't have any reaction or skin rash with this foundation. I should buy a darker tone to mix it. Think dirty 4-7 depending on the tone

Aloe barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Juice, Simmondsia chinensis (Organic Jojoba) Oil, Titanium Dioxide, Aspalathus linearis (Organic Rooibos) Extract, Calendula officinalis (Organic Calendula) Extract, Emulsifying Wax, Camellia sinensis (Organic Green Tea) Extract, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Iron Oxide, mica, Zinc Oxide, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary Extract), Azadirachta indica (Neem), Stearic Acid, Limnanthes alba (Meadowfoam) Oil, Daucus carota sativa (Carrot) Oil, Boswellia carterii (Frankincense) Essential Oil, nMelaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree) Essential Oil, Cistus ladaniferus (Rockrose) Essential Oil, Cedrus deodora (Cedarwood) Essential Oil, Lavendula officinalis (Lavender) Essential Oil, Anthemis nobilis (Roman Chamomile) Essential Oil, Konjac Glucomannan (Mannan), Citric Acid.

English translation
So here we go, if you have any question, please feel free to ask. I am sure that I forgot some details. I have tried Gressa skin lately in tone #2. I am not convinced. I particularly like the liquid format, but the tone is too pale, it gives me a white tone and the covering is extremely light. I will write a mode details article on it after a longer use.

What is your favorite natural foundation ?

  3. Super post! tu en as essaye beaucoup dis donc.

Laquelle tu utilise ? xx

    2. Noooooooooo!! Not Dr. Hauschka! They're still selling the Translucent line here at the moment but a lot of the international sites have "The Foundation replaces Translucent Make-up and uses a new formulation along with a new fragrance" with photos of those new black tubes.

So, this post looks like it comes at the right time as I'll likely be hunting down a new foundation soon. I'm so intrigued by Sappho but it's a bit out of my price range at the moment and although I love the idea of Gressa I don't know if it would work for my skin.

Thank you for sharing! :) x

  11. It's so hard to find a good natural foundation, as is with mascara. All my life I've only worn mineral powder foundations because in Singapore it always hot and humid and I had more combi-oily skin then. I used to like Bare Minerals powder foundation, and I think because I switched to natural skin care, the talc in Bare Minerals caused me problems - it started to look cakey on my face no matter how I blend it.

I'm still on the fence about liquid foundation as I feel more "dirty" compared to mineral foundation, haha. I also prefer products like BB cream with SPF, so I don't have to layer so many products. About Gressa foundation, maybe you need to try #3 to mix with #2?

Finally, TOTALLY agree when you said 'buying means voting' - well said! (Sorry for the long comment :D)

  12. Don't be sorry for your comment Ru, very interesting :) I don't like talc in skin care product. I don't know if bare mineral contain bismuth oxychloride but this ingredient have the reputation for causing acne. Sometimes we react about an ingredient " from one day to the other" (don't know if i can use this expression in english) Our skin change with climat and season.

I understand what you said about the dirty feeling when you wearing cream foundation.. I have this feeling with andalou.. maybe because the heavy zinc sunscreen..
I know for grease, i would try another number and blend with my #2.. But buying 2 bottles for create my skintone color is not economic :)

thank for your comment Ru xx

    1. Yes, Bare Minerals uses Bismuth oxychloride, I think that's why my skin reacted to it! I also think because the climate is drier in Boston so the powder didn't work so well for me. Now I use au naturale mineral foundation and I have no problems. :)

    2. Yes Ru, au minerale mineral is very impressive, i prefer au naturale to alima.. :)
